GORETZKI ON TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY POLITICS

Shrinking state? Growing state? Does any of it make the slightest difference to how we behave? With our lives seemingly controlled by abstract, supra-Statal financial mechanisms that nobody really grasps (even though some can play for their advantage), aren’t we just retreating further into our own private prejudices, our own little psychological territorialities, our own fetid microfascist ghettos, withdrawing into minds all too scarily sure of themselves, minds that are spoonfed a complementary (and obligatory) emotional register so as to display their unquestioned belonging to whatever increasingly spiritual identity they invest? Or is macro-fascism alive and well, albeit in different form? Is the West truly living the twilight years of its hegemony, its ‘progressive’ advances being slowly unravelled? Goretzki has answers...
